My husband came down with a serious respiratory incident with horrifying consequences for his health. His doctor mentioned cleaning the air ducts. A quick Google search later for air duct cleaning in Pleasant Hill turned up good options for performing this recommended action. We scheduled an appointment and waited while my husband wheezed his way through the next few days.

Once they showed up to do the job, we learned how serious it is to not get your ducts cleaned on a regular basis. The technician mentioned some frightening stories about house fires that started due to clogged ducts. Read the rest of this entry »

PostHeaderIcon They Are the Best in Their Business

When my company took over the management of a large shopping complex in town, I was very happy with how smoothly the transition went. I had been to that particular complex many times, but I had never looked at it with a critical eye before. I went there to do just that, and I walked away hours later feeling mostly good about it. The one thing I knew we were going to have to do though was find a company that does Calgary window cleaning. I was not happy with how the windows looked on the buildings.

Some may think that would not be too noticeable, but the entire front of the buildings is mostly made up of windows. Read the rest of this entry »

PostHeaderIcon Hiring a Painter in Horsham

When it comes time to make aesthetic changes to your home, one of the best places to start is by painting. This is something that many tackle on their own, a weekend project that is relatively easy, but painting is not for everyone. At times you can want it to look very professional and don’t have experience painting or you can want more complex techniques that are hard to pull off on your own such as stripes or stencils. Hiring a Horsham painter and decorator who can do the job and help bring your design vision to life may be the best approach to take. It allows for you to get the best result and ensures that you won’t waste your time and money.

Although painting is an activity many homeowners try to take on by themselves, it gets increasingly more difficult for those with higher ceilings and intricate mouldings to attempt and still get results that look like a professional did the job. In particular when this applies, it is best to hire a professional painter. They can help you with selecting the right colors based on your vision. Read the rest of this entry »

PostHeaderIcon Old Memories and Past Dreams

I hope the scrap metal prices don’t go down between now and next week, because I have a lot of metal on my property that I want to get rid of soon. Some of it is old cars that I wanted to fix up at some point. My dream was to restore these old cars back to their original condition in working order, but I realized that such an endeavour would be way too expensive for me. The other metals came from old appliances that I wanted to scavenge for parts, but was too lazy to do. I guess there’s still time to do it, but I really don’t want to bother doing it.

Since I was a kid, I had a fascination with metal. I would take used soda cans and cut them open, and then I would fold the metal into various things. Once I made a ninja start out of a can and threw it into the wall. My mother was furious with me and gave me a spanking. When my father found out, he made me fix the dent I made in the wall, and then he took me to the garage to help him work on a project.

My father helped me hone my talent for working with metal. He showed me how to weld metal and shape it into whatever I wanted. One year we built a go cart entirely out of metal and drove it around the park. All of the other kids were jealous and wanted to take a ride on it. The kids told me I had the coolest dad ever, and I agreed with them. I wish I could recreate moments like that again, but those days are long gone, and next week, so will the metal that I had been storing.

PostHeaderIcon Scramble to Find a Plumber

Usually people experience plumbing problems after a party, but that wasn’t the case for me. Rather than some rude guest clogging up my toilet and leaving without making a sound, I was faced with a clogged toilet before a big party that I had been planning for weeks. The clog happened on the day of the party, and I only had a few hours to get rid of it before my guests would arrive. I contacted every Los Angeles plumbing company I could find within a short distance. I needed someone who could squeeze in an appointment in the few hours before my party.

I was lucky enough to find a plumber who had an opening for me, and he arrived at my home 30 minutes later. He examined the toilet and told me that the only way he could get rid of the clog was if he shut off the water and took apart the pipes, and then told me that it would take 10 hours to complete. At this moment, my jaw dropped and my eyes became huge. I thought it was all over for me, but then the plumber started laughing and told me that he was only joking.

In order to unclog the toilet, the plumber only had to twirl a snake around a couple of times inside the toilet, which only took a few minutes. He was done and I paid him for a job well done, and told him to never scare me with a joke like that ever again. I cleaned up the bathroom, took a shower, and got dressed. My guests started to arrive one by one, with some being fashionably late. One of my guests brought a date with her, and her date was the same joking plumber who fixed my toilet.

PostHeaderIcon Need a New Roof on the Shop

In fact this building was built during the Second World War at that time this something called the ORD or the Overseas Replacement Depot. War being a messy and wasteful endeavor, the US Army had a constant need to replace the men wounded or killed in it’s course. The fellow we bought it from told us that the Army bought a swampy area from his family and they came in and built the camp there, complete with roads and buildings with asphalt roofing, but apparently dozens of Quonset huts as well. After the war ended the Army just gave it all back to his family, since they no longer had much use for the place or hundreds of similar temporary bases needed for a total war effort.
